It’s been known for some time that Warner Bros. was looking to get a Batgirl film off the ground with a new director after Joss Whedon left the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are now on board to direct the upcoming DC film. The directing duo is best known for their work on Bad Boys for Life.

Batgirl will follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the character, but there are no details on whether or not the film will be set in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, the DC Extended Universe, or stand on its own. The Warner Bros. project is also set for HBO Max with Birds of Prey and The Flash scribe Christina Hodson still attached and Cruella‘s Kristin Burr on board to produce.

Meanwhile, in Gotham City, the plot of The Batman is being kept under wraps, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight. The DC film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding HBO Max’s Batgirl and the rest of the projects happening in Gotham City. Also, make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
