Production on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has begun in Atlanta but Queen Ramonda star Angela Bassett tells Entertainment Tonight there have been multiple incarnations of the script, with another one on the way. It isn’t surprising for a movie of this caliber to go through multiple variations, especially after the loss of lead star Chadwick Boseman last year. With Boseman no longer starring as the titular Black Panther, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and director Ryan Coogler had to quickly assemble together a script that not only furthered the Black Panther franchise but also pay tribute to Boseman.

With production continuing on Black Panther 2, Angela Bassett, who plays T’Challa’s mother in the franchise, discussed how she may be uncertain as to what the sequel will look like but is confident that the film will honor the late Chadwick Boseman.

“I don’t know what it’s going to look like at all. There have been about five incarnations of the script and I hear another one’s coming.”

“Of course, with our dear king [Chadwick Boseman] going on to glory, a lot of things had to be shifted and changed. So thankfully, [director] Ryan [Coogler] and [writer] Joe Robert Cole, they’re just such masterful storytellers that they’ve found a way into this world and hopefully it will be satisfying, I think, for the fans and it will be honorable of our Chad.”

Here is the synopsis for the first film:

After the death of his father, the king of Wakanda, young T’Challa returns home to the isolated high-tech African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king – and Black Panther – is tested when he’s drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, he must release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on July 8, 2022. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on Kevin Feige and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
