The long-awaited live-action Halo series is moving from Showtime to Paramount Plus and will premiere in Q1 of 2022.
A live-action Halo project has been in the works for years and is finally becoming a reality with the upcoming television series. Most recently, Halo was set at Showtime, but as the steaming wars continue, Deadline reports ViacomCBS is moving the video game adaptation to Paramount Plus, which will launch next week.
Halo was originally developed for Showtime with hopes of expanding the type of content the premium television network put out. Plans have now changed with the launch of Paramount Plus on the horizon and after the footage was screened in front of executives. CBS Chief Creative Officer and Chairman and Showtime CEO David Nevins explained why Halo was better suited for the streaming service:
“We were on the hunt for signature shows beyond the Star Trek franchise on CBS All Access and were thinking, what could be a defining series for Paramount Plus. Halo always fit the bill, but seeing it, we felt it would work.”
The CBS and Showtime head hopes this move will ultimately draw subscribers to the forthcoming streaming service:
“It could be a defining show for a newish service that’s got all firepower of an entertainment corporation behind it.”
