Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge has joined Indiana Jones 5 and will star next to Harrison Ford in the James Mangold directed sequel.
Indiana Jones 5 has been in the works for quite some time, and now the film has recruited Fleabag and Solo actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge to star as the female lead in the sequel opposite Harrison Ford when the film arrives in 2022. The last time we saw the intrepid adventurer was in the divisive Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and it seems like Disney and Lucasfilm have assembled an impressive team of creatives to bring Ford’s iconic archeologist back to the big screen.
Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold briefly explained in a press release how excited he is to get started on the sequel with Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Harrison Ford, noting that the Fleabag star will “undoubtedly” bring some chemistry to the set as well as praising her creativity. For the moment it’s not clear who Waller-Bridge will play, although with her comedic talents it’d be interesting to see her as some kind of villain in the sequel. Take a look at Mangold’s statement below.
“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers. Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”
