Storm Trooper Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker Rey Daisy Ridley The Force Awakens DisneyDisney teased “real” retractable lightsabers for Star Wars fans during a recent virtual presentation for their parks.

At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, fans have the chance to build their own lightsaber or purchase a hilt wielded by beloved characters from the franchise. It now sounds like Disney, and their Imagineers conjured up new lightsabers that will be as close to the real thing we may ever get.

Towards the end of “A Special Look Inside Disney Parks,” Disney Parks chairman Josh D’Amaro pulled out a lightsaber, turned it on, and proclaimed “it’s real” right before the video went black, according to Spectrum News 13. On Twitter, Walt Disney Imagineering’s Portfolio Creative Executive Scott Trowbridge later confirmed that what was seen at the virtual event was real. The video hasn’t been released online, but this isn’t the first time these details about this lightsaber type have surfaced. Back in 2018, Google Patents revealed specs for a similar-sounding lightsaber device that retracts a blade.
