Zack Snyder said that Warner Bros. has been “aggressively Anti-Snyder” when it comes to his approach to Justice League sequels.
Back in March, Zack Snyder’s Justice League finally premiered on HBO Max. Fans clamoring for Warner Bros. to release Zack Snyder’s original vision for the DC Comics superhero team-up film were pretty happy with the finished product, and were particularly intrigued with the film’s epilogue, which set up the filmmaker’s proposed sequels. Many fans hoped that somehow, the Snyder Cut would lead to these sequels coming into fruition in some form.
Well, it appears that Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. still don’t see eye-to-eye when it comes to where Justice League sequels should go. In an interview with Jake Hamilton while promoting his new Netflix film Army of the Dead, Zack Snyder opened up about how Warner Bros. would rather move on from his approach to Justice League sequels:
“I would think about it this way. Yes, Warner Bros. has been aggressively anti-Snyder, if you will. And that’s… what can you say? What can I say? Clearly they’re not interested in my take. But I would also say that they certainly weren’t interested in my take on Justice League. They certainly made decisions about that. And I love the characters, and I love the worlds, and I think it’s an amazing place to make a movie. It’s glorious IP. So there’s that. I don’t know what could be done as you go forward, other than, I think the fan movement is so strong, and the fan community is so — the intention is so pure. And I really have huge respect for it. I would hope that cooler heads would prevail with (Warner Bros.) and that they would see that there’s this massive fandom that wants more of that. But who knows what they’ll do?”
Zack Snyder’s comments regarding Warner Bros. wanting a different approach following Justice League is indicative of the current trajectory of the ongoing future of DC Films. The upcoming lineup consists of new DC Extended Universe films such as The Suicide Squad, which is set to hit theaters and HBO Max this August as well as Black Adam, The Flash, Aquaman 2 and Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, which are set to release in 2022. Meanwhile, The Batman which stars Robert Pattinson in the titular role and is separate from the ongoing DCEU, is also on deck in the first quarter of next year.
Here is the synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
Zack Snyder’s Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons and Ciarán Hinds.
